Trip overview
The Provo River through the canyon is Class I+ - small waves, steady current, plenty of twists and turns to keep it interesting without being intimidating. It’s the right pick for families, first-timers, and anyone who wants to be on the water without committing to bigger whitewater.
Trips run most days from late April through early October, every hour starting at 10am. Pick the option that fits your day:
- Self-guided - your group, your raft, our shuttle. About 90 minutes on the water.
- Guided - same trip, with a guide in the boat handling the lines so you can just paddle and look around.
- Raft + BBQ combo - guided trip plus a Texas-style BBQ at our shaded riverside pavilion afterward. Minimum 8 guests; about 2.5 hours total.
The setting
Provo Canyon is a corridor with serious scenery on both sides - 12,000-foot Mount Timpanogos to the south, 11,000-foot Big Cascade to the north. The water is cold and clear (the Provo is a Blue Ribbon trout stream), and the run drops about 5 miles back to your vehicle.
This is the longest-running raft operation on the Provo - your sister-company High Country Adventures has been running it since 1989 and is the only outfitter in the canyon with private river-front parking, take-out, and shaded pavilions. It’s a popular tour for a reason.
Worth knowing
Class I+ doesn’t mean trivial - cold water and small rapids still call for good health, attention, and the right footwear. Bring quick-dry clothes (no jeans), a sun layer, and shoes that won’t fall off. The Utah UV index is high; reapply sunscreen.
